Michael J. Sgarlat, Attorney at Law
Michael J. Sgarlat is a qualified and experienced attorney, with a reputation of over 25 years of personalized service and dedication to his clients. A member of the Virginia State Bar, he is licensed to practice before courts of the Commonwealth as well as in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Mr. Sgarlat was raised in the anthracite coal region of northeastern Pennsylvania. He worked his way through school in the mining and reclamation business, as well as by operating heavy equipment and welding. His family background is in mining, multi-family residential development and in the restaurant/bar industries.
Mr. Sgarlat credits his strong work ethic to working on those construction sites. He has always worked alongside the common man and he represents the ordinary “guy off the street” every day in courtrooms throughout Virginia. No case is too small, as Mr. Sgarlat will assist in giving advice and guidance in any way he can and in representing those clients throughout northern Virginia and the Commonwealth.
Mr. Sgarlat hold nothing closer to his heart than ever-growing family. He has been happily married to his beautiful wife, Jean, with whom he has six children, for nearly four decades. His son, Liam J. Sgarlat, is a law graduate of Penn State University and is also a member of the Virginia State Bar. Mr. Sgarlat’s other son, Michael J. Sgarlat, Jr., is a graduate of the George Mason University School of Law and is a member of the Maryland State Bar. Mr. Sgarlat’s other children also have rewarding careers in environmental science, medicine, real estate and engineering. Relaxing with his family, including his three precious grandchildren and two dogs, is how Mr. Sgarlat spends his free time. He is also a proponent of wetlands conservation efforts in northeastern Pennsylvania and along the Susquehanna River, the largest tributary to the Chesapeake Bay.
